Summer campers at Grand Rapids Public Museum build bottle rockets
July 30, 2009 – The Grand Rapids Press
While working as a copy desk intern in Grand Rapids, I had the chance to work on an audio slideshow on my own time. So one afternoon, after work, I checked out summer camps for kids at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. This was what I came up with – a nice, small feature on campers shooting bottle rockets (of the two-liter kind) into the air.
USA Paralympic Basketball – Final Four Exhibition
April 13, 2009 – JRN 320: Photo Editing
My first SoundSlides production. I actually was in town for a United States Basketball Writers’ Association writing competition, planning on doing the production on the Final Four team practices. But I saw this exhibition about to take place and figured I could do a nice little feature on that and focus on the writing aspect of the practices instead. I couldn’t get access to one of the players afterward, hence it is just the coach speaking.
Mikado – Part I: Rock Out!
May 6, 2009 – JRN 320: Photo Editing
Part I of a three-part audio slideshow story on a local band in Saginaw, Mich. named Mikado. This part is a quick look at the band as they play, how they formed and what their sound is like.
Mikado – Part II: The Juggling Act
May 6, 2009 – JRN 320: Photo Editing
This is Part II of the Mikado project. This one looks at bassist Drew Christiansen and how he balances band life with school and work.
Mikado – Part III: Awesome Moments
May 6, 2009 – JRN 320: Photo Editing
This is Part III of the Mikado project. My plans for this part actually fell through – it was supposed to be a look into the band’s practice and how the members interact with each other. But since I couldn’t get to Saginaw the rest of the semester, I used extra material from my first shoot with them to create this instead (hence, why the images are somewhat identical with Part I). Each member reveals their favorite moment(s) with Mikado.
