If possible, I would drop using College Media Network and invest in a site that you host yourself. You will have much more success going into the future and have much more opportunity for revenue.

The site is not bad, but is in need of a redesign. So either way, if you don't drop CMN, redesign the site.

cut the clutter on the homepage, people need a simple design with minimalist content on the home page. edge readers so that they may choose to click through the site based off of curiosity. don't overwhelm on the first click.

make sure to give your writers the ability to appear as personal human beings. just as facebook has given everyday users the ability to become individuals on the internet, let it be known that the stories are written by students - not robots.

consistency, connectivity and creativity.

Cliche as it is, communication is vital. Lack of communication or lack of necessary clarity with me, other editors, staffers, etc. was something that frustrated me more than almost anything else when I was The Miami Hurricane's editor in 2007-08.

Also, help people to challenge assumptions about what their jobs should be. It's very easy to get caught up in the day to day as a section or department editor, or even EIC depending. Always be able to take a step back and help others to do the same. It pays off over time.

Good luck! You and David are gonna rock that place.
